Starck Uberoi Solicitors Support the Work of Charity Khalsa Aid International
At this time of year, we are often encouraged to reflect on our social responsibility and how we can affect the lives of those around us. We at Starck Uberoi are proud to say we support several charities focused on improving quality of life for others, including Khalsa Aid.
Who are Khalsa Aid and what do they do?
Khalsa Aid are the first international humanitarian organisation inspired by the Sikh religion, in particular the Sikh principle “Recognise the whole human race as one.” They are a UK-based charity seeking to provide both immediate and long-term relief to people in need regardless of their beliefs or background, and have helped communities in crisis all over the world.
For over 20 years, they have been providing immediate humanitarian aid following disasters worldwide, dispensing essential supplies in areas struck by natural disasters or war. It was founded in 1999 when their founder, Ravinder Singh, heard of the suffering of refugees from Kosovo in 1999 and was horrified. The Sikh ideology “Sarbat Da Bhalla,” meaning “well-being for all,” came to his mind and he was inspired to take action. Since then, Khalsa Aid has provided relief to thousands of people across the world regardless of their faith and background.
In the UK, they provided assistance to families in Cumbria struck by the floods and to those affected by the burning of Grenfell tower in 2017. They frequently campaign against ongoing human rights issues all over the world, such as discrimination against religious minorities in Afghanistan. Alongside their immediate responses, they also have a range of ongoing projects designed to provide long-term support which you can read more about on their website.
Since 2016, we have donated over £20,000 and intend to continue supporting their fantastic work long into the future.
